Dr. Yusuf is a Reader in Islamic Studies in the Department of Religions. He specializes in Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) with a keen interest in Maqasid al-Shari’ah (Objectives of Shari’ah), Fatwa (Islamic Legal Verdict), and Islam and Contemporary Issues. He obtained a Diploma in Shari’ah and Common Law at Kwara CAILS in 2003, a BA in Islamic Studies at University of Ilorin in 2006, and a PhD in Usul al-Fiqh at the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2010 and 2013 respectively. He joined the Department of Religions as a Lecturer II in 2014. He became a Reader in 2023. He served as Level Adviser for two sets of graduates (2014-2018 & 2018-2022). He is currently the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Arts. He has publications in refereed journals locally, nationally and internationally. He has also attended conferences in Nigeria and abroad.
